About Me

Hi!  I am Nicole Demory.  I am a Title I reading teacher in Mio, a small town in Northeastern Michigan.  I primarily work with kindergarten through third grade students.  I provide intensive intervention for struggling readers.  I also work in classrooms to support students during their reading and writing blocks.

In addition to my work with the students, I have some other duties and responsibilities. I am sometimes called upon to provide training and support for our elementary staff members.  I work closely with the administrators and teachers to analyze available data and make decisions based upon that data. I also plan and organize parent involvement activities for the elementary families.

I love to read, and I spend much of my free time doing just that.  I especially like the genres of mystery/suspense and memoirs.  Some of my favorite authors are Patricia Cornwell, James Patterson, Elizabeth Gilbert, and Emily Giffin.  I love so many books that I could never list them all, but some of the most memorable ones for grown-ups are:

Personally, I believe that children should be encouraged to read whatever they are interested in reading (within reason, of course).  Some kids like to read books, some like magazines, others would rather read something online (like a website or blog), and some kids prefer to read the backs of cereal boxes or Pokemon cards.  Whatever your child is interested in, my advice to you is… try to support it any way that you can.  The best way for anyone to become a better reader is to read, read, read!

I enjoy being a reading teacher very much.  I have a background in early childhood education, so this is the perfect age group for me.  And this is the perfect job in the whole world for the girl who has always loved to read!

I hope that I can pass my passion for books along to as many students as possible…
